2 step synthesis: 1st step: HClC=CCl2 + 3HF 􀃆 HClHC-CF3 + 2 HCL 2nd step: ClH2C-CF3 + HF ↔ F3C-CH2 F + HCL Heterogeneous (solid catalyst, fluidized bed) catalyzed gas phase reaction

1st step is irreversible and exothermic, the 2nd step is an equilibrium and endothermic
